Winter did come early this year but sure stop our fish from eating! The recent snow and now rain has helped a bit with drought conditions in this area. Added a little water to the Au Sable River system and has help streamer bite. Low water is ideal for those that like to hike in and enjoy the solitude wade fishing. Winter is ideal for this to keep moving from spot to spot to stay warm.
Browns are in post spawning mode now and looking for a good meal. Swinging streamer or strippin is ideal now – leeches, variations of Buggers, woolhead sculpins and minnow patterns are ideal. Streamer with movement in slow water. Below is couple photos I took wade fish this week on the Au Sable River.

Lower River continues to fish very good. Plenty of post spawning Atlantic Salmon and they are hunting for food. Steelhead numbers are decent also and most of those are in slow deep holes now.
Here beautiful Atlantic from yesterday that ate a swing leech.

Love the new Winston Air 2 TH 12’ 6” 6wt and just ideal for Au Sable. I have some them stock now. Here is photo from the week before last of a beautiful Atlantic swinging an articulate shiner pattern.
