Mid summer is here on the Au Sable and its all about night time for Big Browns or daytime for Smallmouth Bass. Currently day time trout fishing is just very poor. Many play make believe in the upper river and i guess good for some baby brook trout.
Smallmouth Bass has been excellent here of late in lower river! Morning or Afternoon streamer bite has been really going. Floating lines and lots of different bait fish patterns. Rattlin Murdich Minnow is my favorite – chartreuse/white, Rainbow, Shad. Evenings are all about the top water bite! Poppers, hoppers, stoneflies and dark hex dry flies. Oh yes Smallies are starting to rise late in day!
