Fall is finally here in NE Michigan and a great time to start hunting for Big Brown Trout! Currently water levels throughout Au Sable are very low due to a lack of rain but we are in pre spawning period so these trout are looking to feed well. With low clear water streamer will still produce some great trout but need to tailor your approach to the conditions. Low light periods – first light in the mornings and last light in the evenings. Shadows stick around for a while in these periods. Heavy sink tip and short leader is not the best setup either. Floating lines and or sinking leaders work great now. Love the Airflo Polyleaders on floating Streamer taper line. Longer leaders! Keep boat further away from runs and make longer casts. Wade fishing is an excellent approach also. Down size streamers and keep them natural.
