Extreme heat so far this July in Northern Michigan and pretty much the whole country!  For the Au Sable trout this means time to give them a break.  Hopefully weather patterns will change by mid August in time for our White Fly hatch.  Currently for me its Smallmouth Bass time in the lower water.  So much good water and the fishing has been very good late.  Crack of dawn has been excellent on both Top water or streamers.  Evenings till just after dark is my favorite and been excellent on the topwater bite.  Boogle bug, Umpqua and Zudbubber are my favorite poppers and have been very effective of late. For streamers hard to beat Murdich Minnows, Great Lakes Decievers and Deep Fry.

Last week some very good topwater action on the Au Sable in the late evening.
With current heat these Smallies love to feed after dark!

For those looking for Big Browns now thru early September is an excellent time to hunt them in the dark with mice patterns. Currently I have been doing our night floats on some of our colder creeks and streams in Northern Michigan. Night fishing is sure not a numbers game but it does produce true giants.

Got this one 2 nights and its tail flop way over a 24″ hoop on net! She kissed that mouse 3 times and then crushed it!!
