The first hex I saw this year on the Au Sable River was June 2nd! The Big bugs came with that first big blast of high heat – not a surprise. Yes our dry fly fishing has been inconsistent this year with the stopping and starting of hatches. Rain storm nights sure make for bad dry fly fishing but still lots of good nights. Currently hex throughout the system on the Au Sable. Lower section are still going and mainstream is starting to take off. I would guess with cooler June we will have some good night time dry fly fishing on hex thru the first week in July!
