We are coming into our peak time for river Smallies here in NE Michigan! August is just a great time for the fly angler with excellent top water and dry fly fishing. Daytime streamers are always good for these fish with variety of different patterns – murdich minnows, deep fry, zuddlers and down size Great Lakes Deceivers. Coming evening is a special time for these Smallies as they love to feed on the surface. Top water poppers, hoppers and dry flies are top producers. Below Pat had some great action on both streamers and top water a few days back!
For dries flies dark hex have started and smallies just love this bug! 8pm till 10pm is peak time for this hatch and spinner falls are killer for rising bass. White hatch is due to start soon and Smallies love this bug also. Hopper is good right now and putting a little action on hopper is ideal.
