The lower river every year gets a good hatch of late hex in late July and August. These are a different species than out June Hex. They are a darker bug and they start much earlier. 9pm is peak time.
These lower waters most years over heat and this hatch becomes a Smallmouth Bass hatch. These Smallie love to rise and dry fly fishing can be excellent. Right now water temps are running in the 60’s and ideal for targeting Rainbow and Brown Trout!
Spinning flights get going heavy before dark and can last an hour into darkness. Our CDC Dark Hex pattern is just a killer pattern and can be purchased on our web site.
