Lake Huron is sure warmer than it typically is for early May and ideal for Smallmouth Bass! Fished the shoreline yesterday and had excellent action (photos below). Smallies are in the prespawn mode now and very aggressive. Using both floating and sink tip fly lines and they were on mostly a good size streamer. 4-6″ baitfish were top producer and Great Lakes Deciever was my top producer in glow white. Sluggo in olive/white was also very good. Best water was 8-10′ deep and mostly along first drop off. Sparkle Yummy Minnow in white and olive were also good producers fished on floating line.

I’m USGC Captain and fully licensed for guide trips in Lake Huron now. Do still have some opening in May/June for Smallmouth/Carp.

Been using this new fly line from Airflo for Smallies in the Great Lakes and just love it – Sniper 4 Seasons. The 6wt and 7wt are just ideal for Smallmouth and Carp. Crayfish, goby, minnow patterns cast so well on these! https://michigan-streamside.com/product-category/fly-lines/airflo-fly-lines/superflo-sniper-4-season-ridge-2-0/
