Been decent numbers of Atlantic Salmon in the Au Sable River this winter and recent spring has them on the feed. John got this one on yesterday’s float.
These Atlantics love structure and not deep water. Makes the lower Au Sable ideal for them with tons of logs. Streamers don’t have to fished very deep to be effective. Floating line or 10′ sink tip is ideal and a long leader than we use for trout (8-12′). Longer leader is ideal to sink small weighted streamers. Two of my favorites that have been very effective this spring are the Sparkle Minnow and Mud Puppet.
Look for some bright chrome Atlantics to show up at the mouth and in the very lower down around Oscoda later this spring. As soon as some of the spring time minnows and bait fish start showing up they be there feeding heavy.
