I love chasing Big Browns in the dark and our Summer season isn’t that far off! Will be fishing and guiding in both rivers this Summer – Au Sable River and the White River in Northern Arkansas. Mid May is when Brown Trout here in Northern Michigan start there night time feeding. Most common its sipping Mayfly (Hendrickson and Sulphur spinners) spinners in the low light and then continuing into darkness. But as the weather warms with more bright sunny days many Big Browns starting hunting for big meal when it gets dark.

Here is some pictures from last May with top being a dry fly fishing on May 21st and bottom was mousing in late May

June is and early July is our night time dry fly fishing for Big Browns on our major hatches – Sulphur, Brown Drake, Iso and the Hex! I typically guide on 5 rivers here in Northern Michigan for that season and follow the Big Bugs for 6 weeks. On off bug nights mousing can sure work! Below is dry fly fishing on Hex Hatch.

After the Hex Hatch has finished in July we got 2 months to chase Big Browns in dark on the big stuff – mouse patterns and streamers. I start my King Salmon season on the Betsie River right around Sept 1st that is pretty much the end of it for myself. A Northern Michigan giant in the heat of summer well after midnight below! Booking trips now for the Au Sable River and Northern Michigan in July/August.

Night time fly fishing is all about the hunt for a giant Brown Trout and that has taken me to the White River in Northern Arkansas for last decade plus in the Winter months. Last summer really enjoy the mid summer night fishing and this year will be offering guided night time floats along with lodging/meals at the White River Trout Lodge. Dark of the moon is an ideal time and last half of July/early August I will down on the White River. Booking trips now and do have package rates for the stay at the lodge with night time fishing.
